Accompany James Chaney through the hallways of Albany High School, and you’ll see him greet every person who crosses his path with a smile, high-five or hug.
So it’s no surprise that New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) recently named him the statewide 2024 »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵRelated Professional Member of the Year.

Chaney joined the »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ District of Albany as a teaching assistant in October 2011 at the former Philip Livingston Magnet Academy. He worked at Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy (now Roots Academy at West Hill), Eagle Point Elementary »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵand Montessori Magnet »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵbefore joining team Albany High in September 2023.
He is a graduate of ITT Technical Institute and considers himself a lifelong learner.
